Something of a bit of an experiment. No.4 size inner caps are so difficult to source I thought I would see if it was possible to fabricate a viable substitute. The result is here in this little photo sequence. These are slightly smaller than the originals due to the limitations of materials I had to hand. And they are made of copper, not steel as the originals were. Operationally they seem to work fine but, being copper, give the flame a spectacular green colour for the first few firings! @kerophile - wow - that photographic memory of yours for every thread ever posted on CCS - yes that BD thread is exactly it! Mind you I'm utterly amazed that he got such neat holes using a 'spade bit', I was using a step drill and that was awkward enough! And why was there no hint of green in his flame shots? Alchemy? Talk about reinventing the wheel

@presscall there are a couple, less than 1/2 dozen, that I made surplus to own requirements that are put out at cost in case anyone was in desperate need of an interim 'fix' pending sourcing an original. I'm not at all sure of the appropriateness of mentioning that here, however, as both this thread, and the 2008 BD posting that Kerophile has alerted us to above, are intended to show users of this forum that it is perfectly possible to make a viable temporary substitute of their own at home.
