Hi I've never found a really good simmer plate for either home or for my classics. Today I may have found at least a contender. Previous simmer plates have been flimsy, rusty, had unnecessary handles or all three. Anyway a week ago I was looking through the Coopers of Stortford catalogue to kill time whilst sitting on the throne. It gets delivered every so often because I once bought a petrol hedge trimmer from them, honestly I'm not ready for the big slipper or the incontinence pants yet. It's not really a full on wrinkly brochure like the ones David & Trevor subscribe to. Moving on I spied their simmer plates and they looked like a decent deal, so by the magic of smart phone a pair was ordered before I did my paperwork. Today they arrived and here are some photos. Good quality cast and machined aluminium, allows a proper "fish eye!" simmer even on our commercial cooker. Link
Nice piece of kit, Gary. I have just ordered one. I notice that you picked on me and David. We are just two feeble old men and a whippersnapper like you should be ashamed of himself!
Gas stoves are very unusual where I live and these things are difficult to find so I use this: It's just a 5x160x160 aluminium plate with ani-slipping ridges. It works great for home use but lacks the grippy bottom ridges and is heavy for out doors duty. Iv'e been meaning to make a round one with holes for moving with a bail or for sticking a knife or similar through to move it while hot but this just works so I haven't gotten around to it.
Don't worry, mate - he's just a callow youth who knows no better. In fact, I think they put that warning on the diffuser instruction leaflet because it was for him...
Hi Gary Thanks. I got mine today and they seemed to have solved a problem that I had with my gas hob at home. I have a similar problem with the hob in my camper van so got two sets I usually end up buying what Trevor has just bought so you have moved up a notch.
Bryan The more I use mine, the more I like them. I think they are of French origin as they have on them "Ne pas utilised last plaque sans casserole ni Poole". You can read it in the second photo of my original post (upside-down) . Isn't the new site so much better with the higher res. photos.
There is no maker shown. They are made in Taiwan and sold by Coopers of Storford here http://www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/coopers-of-stortford-gas-plate-x2-prodst09905i/
I also got my pair of plates today. Great bit of kit. The company must be mystified about the sudden increase in sales.
With one 00 stove that I bought I got self made simmering plate. I'll post some pictures of it when I find it from my pile of stoves.
